Gladys Wilding
Gladys Wilding, seen in the 1940s Witney Labour Exchange leaflet.
This is a picture of Gladys Wilding who worked as a manageress
of the canteen at Smith and Philips' blanket firm in Bridge
Street both before and after the Second World War. She left her
job when she started a family and later returned to work as a
cook at Hailey Road School. This photo was published in a 1940s
Labour Exchange booklet that was designed to encourage women to
work in the blanket industry; incentives that were offered
included free overalls and a five-day week.
